Research

Research in the department is very broadly based, with programs in almost all fields of physics and astronomy. Furthermore, research directions are continually changing, with many faculty members moving into new areas. To the left, we list the various research groups in the department with a brief listing of some of their recent research activities. Many of these groups have joint research activities with members of other departments: particularly mathematics, chemistry, electrical engineering, computer science, material science, and philosophy, as well as the physics department at Carnegie Mellon University.
